vision continued

How are you implementing the vision (ELCC 1.3)?
The vision of my action research will be implemented in several ways. I will try to get the vision across to all the stakeholders in the school community. By November of 2012, I will try to get the staff on board with my vision of my action research. I feel that once I get the staff on board, it will be easier to complete my action research. By February of 2013, I will involve all other stakeholders will be informed of my action research vision. Once the results of my action research are final, I will share the vision with all the stakeholders. By May 2013, I will share the results of the action research with all the school community.
Steward the Vision (ELCC 1.4).
When sharing the vision of my action research, I used motivational techniques to get all the stakeholders on board with my action research. During a faculty meeting in November, I explained to the staff that I would be conducting an action research and if I could please get cooperation if I needed it. I explained what the action research was about and received good feedback from the staff. When I sent out the initial teachers survey, I used the results to measure how much interest there was in my action research. I also used the results of the first survey to see what changes I needed to make to my action research.
Promote community involvement in the vision (ELCC 1.5).
To gain the support of the community for my action research, I used a letter to    the parents of the LEP students that were going to be involved in my research. In the letter I asked the parents for their help with whatever they could do for my research. I will be using the school television station to announce the results of my action research. I want to use communication with the community to get them involved in my vision.
Manage resources (ELCC 3.3).
When talking to the principal about my action research, she expressed her opinion on using a committee for my action research. Teachers and administrators were asked to participate in my action research. I used all the members involved in my action research to come up with the best action research. We decided that the school literacy program would be the ideal topic for the action research. We have used technology to collect any data that we have needed for our action research.
Mobilize community resources (ELCC 4.3).
I used the school social worker to see if I had all the home information of the students that are to be involved in my action research. I have not used much community resources to express my vision to the community.
Promote positive school culture (ELCC 2.1).
The teacher feedback was positive for my action research. They are not satisfied with how the literacy program is implemented in our school. If our action research data says that the literacy program is not helping students improve in reading levels, then changes need to be made.
Provide an effective instructional program (ELCC 2.2).
I will conduct a feedback survey at the end of my action research. My action research will be completed by May 2013. I plan to compare initial data collected with data collected at the end of my action research. I will analyze each objective that was planned through my action research. Hopefully the data will show the results and any changes that need to be made to the literacy program.
Influencing the larger context (ELCC 6.3).
We plan to explain the results of the action research to the entire school community. All the stakeholders will be debriefed of the results. We will announce the results to the staff during a faculty meeting in May. We will use a power point presentation to disseminate our results. The results of the action research will be shared with the parents, students, and community members through a special cultural night in the school. The cultural night will be advertised through district television station, local radio stations and local newspaper. During this night od culture we will share the results of the action research with the community members.
Design a comprehensive professional growth plan (ELCC 2.4).
The results of my action research will show either the literacy program is working or the literacy program is not helping our students. If our research shows that the literacy program is working in helping our LEP students, then the program should remain as it is. If the results show that the literacy program is not helping, then changes need to be made to the literacy program. Any program that is implemented in schools must help students improve academically. The faculty must know how to implement these programs. Teachers must be trained to implement these programs.

New Action Research

Draft Action Research Plan Progress

Title

Will increasing reading time for LEP students, by 100 minutes per week, impact reading grade levels.

Needs assessment

The action research committee determined that our 10th grade LEP students would be the best sub-group to research, as far as literacy. We determined that we were to use three data reports for our needs assessment. We used data from 9th grade EOC state assessment for ELA, we used data from our schools reading renaissance program, we used failure reports from PIEMS report and we used data from the schools 90 day plan from the TIIPS grant coordinator. The data showed a need for researching the schools literacy program. Does the literacy program have an impact on reading levels?

Objectives and Vision of the action research project

Our vision is that the data will show that our schools literacy program increases reading levels of LEP students. This will hopefully lead to the continuation of the literacy program. Our action research is to measure the impact of a one hundred minute per week literacy program. Is there an impact on reading levels, positive or negative?

Review of the Literature and Action Research Strategy

E. Lindsay, S. Booth.(2002) Leading Information Literacy Programs: Immersion and Beyond: Journal of Library Administration; Volume 36, Numbers 1 of 2  (2002).

After discussing my action research plan with my site supervisor, we concluded that my action research plan would be beneficial to measure the impact of our literacy program. The principal suggested bringing in a committee to help with the action research. We discussed the outcome of the action research plan, if the data collected showed that literacy reading levels are not improving, changes need to be made to the literacy program.

Articulate the Vision (ELCC 1.2)

I shared my vision of my action research plan with certain members of the stakeholders of the school. I shared my action research with the entire staff during staff developments throughout the first semester. I have not yet shared my action research with parents or students. This is the next step in my action research process. I will use the social worker and the migrant strategist to deliver an information pamphlet to the parents.

Manage the organization (ELCC 3.1)

I took the suggestion of the principal and I asked certain staff members to join my action research committee. Together, we decided that the best action research would be the literacy program. We have met several times and these meetings have been very productive. We came up with the action research question, we came up with our smart goal and collected initial data that we needed. Because the TTIPS grant is important to our school, we decided that one of the products of the TTIPS grant would be the ideal action research topic.

Manage Operations (ELCC 3.2)

We used initial data to assist us in determining the action research we were to select. We decided that the literacy program used by our campus would be the best action research we could choose. I implemented a plan where every person in the group would have responsibilities within the group. We have taken initial surveys of teachers on their views of the literacy program.

Respond to Community Interest and Needs (ELCC 4.2)

The action research will measure the impact that the literacy program has on LEP students reading levels. Initially, the research will measure the actual impact of the literacy program. Ultimately, the action research will determine if the literacy program will continue as is or if changes needs to be made to the literacy program. The results will be shared with all the stakeholders. The topic of literacy is a challenging topic at our school. Our students are well below the state reading levels. Literacy programs need to be implemented but the literacy programs must be measured to see if they are successful.

action research progress

My action research, Staff development effectiveness, is an action research project that will measure the effectiveness of staff developments that are recommended by school administrator. Staff development can be an extremely important tool that can be used by teachers in the classroom. Learning new and different techniques that a teacher can use in the classroom, can allow young teachers to become successful in the classroom. For my action research there will be several steps. I have asked for and received a list of all staff developments that will be recommended by administration. I have found that they are spaced out at about one per month. And range from classroom management to classroom technology. My plan incudes a preliminary survey that will ask questions on staff developments from prior years. After the preliminary survey, I plan to survey after every staff development asking for input on relevance of the staff development. Did the staff development provide useful information that can be used in the classroom? I will survey teachers that participated in the staff development, followed by an interview that will check on implementation of information provided. This process will happen after every staff developments provided by administration. Once the last staff development takes place, all the information gathered will be analyzed. Finally, there will be ending interviews with certain volunteer teachers. These teachers will be interviewed on the staff developments they attended. The final interviews will also ask what kind of staff developments would be more beneficial to classroom teachers. After all the information has been put together and analyzed, the results will be discussed with the site supervisor. Any changes that need to be made after this meeting will be made. The final report will be done and a report will be given to the principal

action research reflection

Overall, developing an action research has been an eye opening experience for me. I have learned that action research is a tremendous tool for a principal. The action research is a continuous work in progress. Even when you think you are done with a research, it only opens the door for other inquiry questions from your research. I will try to use action research for the rest of my leadership career.

action research reflection

working on my action research project, i discovered that working on an action project will not only help  the school but it will also help me. I will become a better researcher by using inquiry or action research. This tool will help me from now on in my education career.
